Meeting between friends

“What’s up man, my name’s Jesse, were gonna be on the same team.” Is how I was greeted by my soon to be best friend. Neither of us knew that we would end up as best friends at the time, it was just how our friendship started. Most interactions between humans start out as I-it or I-you relationships. Your parents, family, and any close friends you grow up with are going to be the exception. Jesse and I found out that we had similar interests because of this we started hanging out more and more. As we started to hang out we found topics that caught both of our interests such as the San Francisco Giants. Other topics like, religion, was taboo. As time went on, the list of taboo topics got shorter and shorter, even religion has been removed. Both of us are atheists so religion is now something that we agree on. Now our arguments consist of which San Francisco Giant’s players’ should be starting in each game.

  1. Hey D_Minuz,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about I-It vs. and I-You relationships. I think it is awesome that you and your best friend seemed to click right off the back. When I first met my best friend, she hated my guts. She thought that it was unnatural for someone to be as happy and optimistic as I am all the time and she thought I was on drugs. Surprisingly I get that a lot... :) I am glad that your list of taboo topics has shortened as well because it is important to be open and straight up about the things that we feel strongly about with those we care about.

Looking forward to your future posts!
